My DLP lamp went for 21,339Hrs

Post by Orion314 » Fri Apr 30, 2010 2:29 am

I have a 4 yr old Samsung HL-S4676SX. Since I work from home it's not unusual for it to be on 24-48 hrs straight at a time. I bought a high quality power strip, since I live out in the sticks in central florida, and lighting storms can get wicked. About a month ago, picture started to get dimmer, figured the lamp was ready to give up the ghost. I was shocked how many hrs I had clocked on this set. Replaced the lamp today, warning for fan#2 came on, pulled the lamp, got a can of compressed air (after vacuuming the crud out, not too bad considering I smoke.) Sprayed the hell out of it with the compressed air. and it looks like the day I bought. it. picture is sweet, and I love this TV!!!! Thanks to all here for the tips. BTW, I never used the dynamic settings for picture.

Wow, I just replaced my lamp at 12600 hours because I was already in there replacing the color wheel and I figured it was a good time to replace the lamp. I guess I should have let it run for a couple more years!

Because you did have the TV on for 24-48 hours straight at times is most likely why it did last over 21000 hours. Most failures (for most any device) will occur when tranistioning between states....off-to-on, etc. Leaving it on saved it the "shock" of starting.
