Hi all - I'm perplexed by this one.
A couple months ago, our TV out of the blue started going through a strange boot cycle when powered up. Lights would flash on the front (all of the lights, I believe), and the TV would make a very loud "whirring" sound. The lights would flash for about 30 seconds, then the unit would shut down, and power back on, and the cycle would start again. From reading the ever-popular "how to fix your samsung DLP" article, it seemed like a problem with the color wheel, as only two moving parts can make that kind of sound, and it didn't sound like the fan.
Flash forward 2 months (I hadn't gotten around to ordering a replacement color wheel, in part because I had been feeling liberated by being TV-less). I go back to recreate the problem - and now, there's no noise. All that happens is when I turn on the unit, the lights on the front power button flash, and nothing else. No boot cycle, no whirring noise. Could this mean the color wheel has completely given up the ghost and stopped even trying to turn? Or could a deeper issue be at play here?

It can be that the colorwheel simply gave up. You can open the back panel of your tv and check for physical damage on it, however for the colorwheel you don't always have the Noise indicating failure. It can just loss calibration and well... The part is a consumable part.
