HLR5087W Problem
My DLP TV works awesome for about 45 min. and then the screen goes black. I still get sound and the lamp is on but no picture. I thought it was a heat/fan problem because the fan didn't seem to be working all the time, and wouldn't stay on after the set was shut off. I replaced the fan and now it (the fan) is working fine but the tv still does the same thing. When I shut the tv off it comes back on normally and works fine until it happens again. The time that it stays on varies from 5 -20 minutes approx. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Re: HLR5087W Problem
Have you ever replaced the lamp?
How old is your TV?
Your lamp is working, but maybe your lamp timer has reached its limit. Try to reset it, instructions here: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=92.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info i'll try that and keep ya posted. TV is approx. 4-5 years old and I have never changed the lamp. I just cleaned the entire back also. I've reset the timer which had damn near 14,000 hrs. I'll let ya know giving her a test drive now.

Didn't do it. Any other thoughts or ideas? Thanks

When the picture is gone, are you able to display the menu?

Nope, no menu is displayed when the picture goes. It still appears to be a heat issue although the fan is working fine. The longer I leave the tv off after the picture goes, the longer it seems to stay on. The screen doesn't totally go black if you can imagine that, the lamp still illuminates the screen although it is black. Just no picture. Thanks

Did you vacuum the light engine?
It seems to be a DMD board issue, so it could be the board that is overheating.

I vacuumed everything in there. Where exactly is the light engine? Where is the DMD board? Can you help me out with a part number for the board? I might just replace it. Thanks

Check this color wheel replacement guide: http://guides.fixyourdlp.com/samsung/bp96-01579a.php.jeffandmoira wrote:I vacuumed everything in there. Where exactly is the light engine? Where is the DMD board? Can you help me out with a part number for the board? I might just replace it. Thanks
If you can follow the steps until the picture row 8 column 1, that is the light engine.
If vacuuming the light engine doesn't solve the problem, take the DMD board apart and look for the part number on it.

Re: HLR5087W Problem
Ok people, after finally replacing the mega dollar digital board, I have the same problem. After I try to return the board the next thing is to replace the little fan by the board. It appears not to be working at all. If anyone can come up with a better idea I sure would appreciate it. Otherwise it is off to TV land somewhere and buy a new LCD. Thanks

Re: HLR5087W Problem
I replaced the digital board not the DMD board. So that may be the problem. Man big money for hopes and dreams.

Re: HLR5087W Problem
Ok everyone I just want to give an update so everyone hopefully learns something which may help others in the future. After all my dicking around, I realized my tv was still under warranty from, believe it or not, Circuit City. Repair company came out looked at the big tv and freaked. They had to do and in home repair. Well they did the same thing first with the digital board and no fix. Then they replaced the huge ass light engine and amazingly the problem was fixed. So basically all the guts to my DLP are brand new. Color wheel, everything. And it didn't cost me a thing. The engine was a $600 part from what I was told so this isn't a cheap fix. Thanks for any and all the help that was offered, hopefully I get another 4 years out of this tv as I truely do love it.
