Having problems auto tuning some channels

Some of my local channels are not getting tuned in when I do auto tune. Can anyone tell me why this may be happening and how I can get them to tune in??
1. Make & model of the set?
2. Is this OTA or CATV?
3. If OTA, what type of antenna?
4. Are these local or distant signals?
