My DLP no Wokrie

Post by moodymike » Sat Jun 13, 2009 1:39 am

I have a Samsung hlp6163w. It stopped working with the 3 dreaded light blinking. To make a long story short, I replaced the lamp, no fix, then the ballast. No go. When you turn it on, the lamp lights for a few seconds, then shuts off. It waits a bit, then does it again, it lights for a little (seems maybe a tad brighter)then shuts off. Then it goes back to all three light on front blinking again. I have tried to access the menus using mute, 1,8,2,power, but it wont go there.
Not sure what else to try at this point. A bad color wheel wouldnt cause the lamp to shut off, would it?
Possible defective ballast?
Any help is very appreciated,
Thanks in advance.

I understand your color wheel can cause your lamp not to come on. Apparently it sends a speed signal to the digital board and if the wheel doesn't come up to speed the board won't send the signal to the lamp ballast to turn on. Check if the ballast is making some clicking noises like it is trying to turn on the lamp.

Turns out they sent me the wrong ballast. I got the new one, and still no go. I do get a clicking noise though. So to recap, the ballast and lamp are new. I get no picture with the 3 lights coming on. If I remove the lamp, I can see the small hole where the color wheel is. When I try to power the unit up with the lamp removed, I dont see the color wheel turing at all. (and yes, the door switch was bypassed). I took it all apart, and didnt see anything visually wrong with the color wheel. Does the color wheel normally start turning when the tv powers up? Does it start turning before the lamp comes on? If so, is it possible I need a new color wheel assy?
thank you
