The white dots of DOOM!

OK I've got a samsung 50 in DLP , model HL-S5086WX/XAA , its about four years old.
Bout a few weeks ago a white dot showed up on my screen , now there is lots of white dots, some solid , some flickering.
I've been researching this the past couple days, and it seems to be a very common issue with samsung DLP's.
The general concensus is that it is the DMD chip or whatnot which cannot be replaced itself , and that you must replace the entire DMD board.
If this is the case , then im trying to find out the best place to find this part(at a reasonable price) and possibly the part number if anyone might know it by chance.
Is this a complicated procedure to replace this board.
Im an automible mechanic ,so i think this might be something i could handle.

Any help would be appreciated.Thanks

Hi maverick.

Yes, definitely your DMD board is the problem. I found one at samsungparts.com: http://www.samsungparts.com/part_detail ... l=HLS5086W and it's for $168.27.

Hope this helps.

ok so i got the dmd board today, pretty excited . only problem is that there was no chip in it(im assuming thats the thing that goes in the middle that makes everything work). From my understanding that was the part that was failing, and that it was one piece with the dmd board.
And could not be removed.
Well it wasn't on the board.
I decided to take the tv apart anyhow , got it apart only to realize this was not the same dmd board. Slightly different in mounting hole locations. The chip was most definitly removable front the board(i removed it).
Put the whole deal back together and to my relief it still works fine although still covered in white dots.
What I need to know is do I get another dmd board( the correct one).
Or do I just get the "chip"( piece in that goes in the center of the board)
Any help would be appreciated.
Maybe I just need some help with my terminology and understanding what all these differnt pieces are correctly named.

Hi again.

Well, as far as I know the DMD chip isn't sold separately, you need to buy the whole board. However I wouldn't buy the DMD chip alone, I run the risk of getting a not compatible part. Check the part number of your DMD board and look for the exactly same part so you get the correct one this time.

Hope this helps. ;)
