possible lamp problem

I have a jvc D-ILA tv. i believe the lamp may have burned out,but the sound is also off. should the audio work when the lamp goes?

not always but it is the most common procedure your TV would take when a lamp goes, it would at one point detect the lamp is bad and shut down the rest of the components. I would replace the lamp.
