I replaced the bulb - very sure it is installed correctly - I have done this before. When I turn on the TV...orange is on standby....then goes green with orange lamp indicator also on....it 'times out' or something then goes red like it shutting off commensurate with the lamp light flashing red 5x....that's it.

I was told that it may be the ballast....help!

Going by the symptoms you posted, yes. I would agree about the ballast board. specially if you have a Samsung.
