I’m back with another reference guide, this time I got a hold of a Sony TV that came in my shop.
In this one I’m going to show the components of a 3LCD projection TV (NOT a DLP).
If some of you don’t remember, the main difference between these two is that the DLP has a color wheel and the 3LCD has a prism attached with 3 lcd chips.
As you can see the lamp door is in front. In order to access it you’ll have to remove the front panel.
For this Sony Tv the way to open it up is trough the Back. Once the back panel is removed it will look something like this.
The first block of parts (from left to right as you look at the back) can be removed by slightly sliding it out. The board with the BIG capacitors you see in the picture is the Main Power Supply board.

Re: 3LCD Projection TV Internal Parts
Next to it is the Video board (that is divided in two, analog & digital), where all the external components are hooked up.
As we move along we can see the ballast and the lamp fan, the ballast is the one that provides regulated voltage to the lamp, while the fan keeps the lamp from over heating.
If you look in the front you’ll notice that where the lamp goes you can see the entrance to the light tunnel that part of the light engine. If the second panel is removed you’ll be able to see the light cannon & lens sticking out.
