HL-P5063W - Has video/audio but won't stay on.

I power up the tv. It goes through its "boot up" process and works. In approximately 5-10 min it powers off, and the indicator LEDs on the power switch blink as follows:
Red: Standy/Temp
Green: Lamp
Green: Timer

This behavior has been an issue for a week or two. In the beginning it would happen on occasion but as of today the set will not stay on for more than 5 min.

In the past, both the color wheel and the digital processor unit were replaced by a technician under an extended warranty.

I've contimplated purchasing a replace bulb but felt this was probably not the cause since it still has video.

**Edit**
Could it be over-heating? I entered the service menu, reset user settings, did a lamp clear then turned it off for a about an hour and it started working again without issue. I guess tomorrow I need to check to make sure the cooling fan is functioning.

Any suggestions on what the problem might be are welcome.

Hello,
How long has it been since you had the DMD board and the colorwheel work done?
This can be an issue with a fan, (which can require replacement or just cleaning) and the easiest way to diagnose is to get behind the TV near the lamp and listen for the fan coming on without opening up the lamp door, if you do decide to open it to take a closer listen, you have to make sure the override sensor is pressed so that the TV "thinks" the door is closed otherwise it will not turn on. If the fans are in good working order, since you are getting audio & video and all three indicator lights, if there is no color malfunctions It is most likely a Ballast issue. This we can determine by how long have you had your set? and how many times (and when) have you replaced the lamp?

I purchased the tv in 2005. The DMD and Light Engine were replaced in 2008. I thought the lamp was replaced at that time as well but my wife said it wasn't. So if that's true it's the original lamp.

I'm not sure how many hours are on the lamp because when I checked the service menu the lamp life shows zero. I'm guessing this might be because of the work that was done previously.

Hello synack.
There is a very big possibility that you might need a new lamp, especially if you haven’t replace it since 2005, but before you get in to buying anything, do you get any other symptoms, like bad picture befor the lamp shut off, strange notices coming from the back?.
If none of these are affecting your tv then its very probable just the lamp, if you decide to replace the lamp don’t forget to clean the inside of your tv thoroughly.
Good luck.

Hello!
Hey before you order a lamp (which is probably your real problem) try to remove the lamp to take a close look at it, because Samsung changed the type for some models, including yours, and they kept using the same lamp part number (in your case BP9600608A) but there can be one of 2 different Philips lamps inside your TV from factory!!! Your safest bet is to order the complete Lamp with enclosure instead of a bare lamp, here is a link to an original Philips lamp with enclosure:
http://www.discount-merchant.com/Samsun ... mp-enc.htm

let us know how it goes! good luck :)
