Starting problems with 52HM84

Post by RRlocoENGR » Sat Nov 20, 2010 7:24 am

I have a 52HM84 television. Sometimes the set will not come on, the red and green lights flash together after the set attempts to come on eight times. I know that this is supposed to indicate that the lamp is not operating properly, but there are times that the set will come on fine and the picture is good.

My question is this, could the lamp be bad even though it still comes on most of the time and works great? I have ordered a new lamp and hope that solves the problem, but I am not sure that it is the lamp. What might cause the set to give this indication if it is not the lamp?

Thanks!

hello!
judging by the repeated ignition cycles I would recommend you replacing your lamp ballast soon since it is a consumable part in your TV, but I would not eliminate the probability of it being the lamp.
from a logical standpoint I would start by replacing the lamp and if the problem persists, then I am pretty sure the ballast needs to be changed.

Thanks for you input. I have replaced the bulb and occasionally the tv will not start still. Is the ballast something I can change? Could you tell me what to do to replace it? Is it a inexpensive part?

Thanks again!
