My samsung 67inch dlp lost its color.
my samsung tv sounded like something blew up inside of if then the color went out and there is a loud buzzing noise. Now evertime the television is turned on the humming noise starts up and the tv displays in black and white and works pretty good besides that. what seems to be the problem? thanks in advance.
Fan or Color Wheel Noise, Screech Whine
My TV is making the loud "fan" noise, but I'm having trouble figuring out if its one of the fans or color wheel.
Model Number: HLP5663WX/XAA
Picture is perfect
TV runs for as long as we choose to leave it on
Approximately 8 seconds after I push the "power", the fan noise winds down
When I switch between inputs you can hear a hesitation in the noise
I've had the back off twice, and I'm still not sure.
Yesterday I had it off, the noise wasn't loud...manually stopped both fans, but since the noise wasn't really present anyways, it wasn't clear if that stopped it or not. It seems that maybe just the jostling around from moving the tv to get access to the back "fixed" it for awhile. The noise came back about 3 or 4 hours later.
I've looked at some parts on line...does the "/XAA" at the back of the model number matter in part selection?
Thanks!
Jeff

Re: HLP5663WX/XAA - Fan or Color Wheel Noise?
That sound that you hear, is it loud enough to hear it while you are watching the tv? Have you clean the inside free of dust & mold? Try to open the back again with the tv off and get to the color wheel, and start spinning it manually, see if you get that noise.
Knowledge is the one true power

This is in the wrong place. It should be in the RPTV section. I'm going to merge it with the color wheel posts.

Re: HLP5663WX/XAA - Fan or Color Wheel Noise?
Having the same symptoms on my Samsung 67" HLR6768WX/XAA DLP..... I've replaced the lamp on 02/04/10 and the color wheel on 02/17/10....
The picture is very clear and colorfull... but still have fairly loud humming sound coming from unit after turning it on with remote, which the unit continues to 'hum' while in the on position.... then while powering down, a whirly type noise starts for a few seconds then slowly makes a spinning sound to a stop.
Anyone have any ideas here.... since the picture is like new again?
Thanks for any help.

Re: HLP5663WX/XAA - Fan or Color Wheel Noise?
Model: HLP5663WX/XAA
Had time to take the TV off the stand...and open the whole back. As with last time I moved it, the noise stopped for hours. After a few hours it started making the humming noise again.
I located the power connections for the two fans I can see (one right inside the back cover, the other, bigger one back behind the bulb area....and disconnected each of them. The noise continued, although I got the Check Fan warning on the front with 1 & 2 in RED and 3 in WHITE. The warning went away when I plugged the fans back in.
Is there a #3 fan in my TV that could be making the noise? If so, where is it?
Since Fan #1 and Fan #2 definitely aren't the cause of the humming noise, is the color wheel the only other option?
The picture remains perfect and there are no other issues other than the humming noise.
Thanks for the help!

Re: HLP5663WX/XAA - Fan or Color Wheel Noise?
I too had the "humming" noise. I removed the color wheel to find it had broken pieces. The humming is the color wheel running at high RPMs and being out of balance and vibrating.
Re: HLP5663WX/XAA - Fan or Color Wheel Noise?
Does this noise happen all the time or just when you turn off the tv? My DLP sounds like a you stick something in the blades of a fan and it makes the flipping noise after I turn off the tv and the fans lose power.
