Anyone have experience with a yellowish glow?

Post by scipres » Mon Aug 03, 2009 12:36 am

I have a Zenith Model: M52W56LCD

It is a combination DLP/LCD but has a yellow glow in the center of the screen. Also the color is mostly a blue tint.

Doesn't seem to have a color wheel and the lamp is working, but maybe it is too old?

Please advise,
Thanks,
Sal

Hi Sal.

Does this yellow glow affect the menu? I think one of the LCD chips is melting. If this is the issue then you'll need to replace the light engine, unless you can find the chips for separately.

Hope this helps.

No it doesn't seem to affect the menu. I took apart the entire optical path to look at all the components (mostly mirrors and stuff) looking for a color wheel which I did not find. It seems this product only has a light engine. The color is mostly blue and sometimes has blue random streaks on the screen as well. Is the light engine repairable? How can I test it to verify if it is bad?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Also, do you know where I could get a service manual and or parts?

Thanks,
Sal

Actually your TV doesn't have a color wheel, this device is exclusive of DLP TVs, your TV is an LCD projection TV, so it creates the color by dividing the white light from the lamp using a prism. It generates green, red and blue colors and send each of them to a different LCD chip. So in your case, if you have a blueish color it could be because there is not enough red, so the chip in charge of the red color could be failing. However you said the problem doesn't affect the menu, so I recommend you to try other inputs, if the menu is not affected it could be a problem with a board.

Try all the inputs and let me know the result of the test.

I have the same model tv. And I have a green tint and a yellow glow in the middle. We are thinking light engine. Would replacing the light engine or having it fixed, well fix the problem? We just got it, and low and behold it has issues but we love it and want to fix it. Please help! :?:
