When it's inadvisable to reset lamp timer

Post by mikro » Sat May 23, 2009 10:02 am

Is it true that resetting the lamp timer/life to zero and continuing to use an old bulb can damage the ballast or power supply?

YUP :D

The reason for that is because...there's an average hours of usage for the lamp. Now if you try to squeeze more hours to a lamp, basically you're forcing the life spawn of the lamp, making your ballast to work the double to ignite the lamp/ keep powered on.

How does resetting the lamp hours try to extend the lamps life? It's just a timer, lamps die when they burn out not because the timer extends their life in some way.

The timer is only to let you know how long your lamp as been running .The average life of a lamp is between 4500 and 6000hrs . So you can bye another one spare before it ran out.
