Thanks for your reply. Luckily, there isn't a blob on the screen in any color. What it looks like is an "escape" of that bright white light. I'm thinking about taking it apart again and making sure that everything was replaced correctly. Somehow some light is getting through.

My spot is circular and really only visible on the dark screen...like a light shadow. They're about 3 inches in diameter...driving me crazy! The lamp and the color wheel are new.

I've replaced the lamp and the color wheel successfully on my HLP5063WX/XAA. The color is brigher (it had been dimming itself after about 2 minutes) and the insanity inducing whirring sound is gone! I'm not sure about the chances of the new color wheel being bad, but did you try spinning it by hand? When I removed my old one tonight, I spun it and heard the sound. It was less, but it was definitely that annoying sound. Maybe you could give that a try. Also www.searspartsdirect.com is the cheape...
