Re: hi new member. baird 50" dlp broken HEEEELP
based on your description of the sound, i would guess that your color wheel shattered (somewhat common on dlp sets). i've never heard of baird as a brand name, but you could see if you can find the part online for replacement, but sometimes these parts are astronomical in replacement costs and it's ...

Re: Does this look swollen to you?
this looks almost identical to my PS. take a look at the caps outlined in red here: http://img.skitch.com/20090904-kajwf6gt9gen5a774mka6uei2h.jpg Replacing these caps fixed my issue (of blinking lights for 5 seconds, solid for little bit and then turning off). I had a local shop do it here for $30 o...

have you check the capacitors on your power supply? i feel like a broken record suggesting this, but these RCA tv's have lots of problems with bad caps on the psu

Re: Blinking Lights - Worth Noting
could be a couple of issues, the fact that it works, and then turns off sounds like a heat issue, i would take the back of the tv off and clean the ballast fan and any other amounts of dust you find in there first and see where that gets you...

Re: RCA HD50LPW175XY7 no picture
could be the ballast not firing the light, you'd likely hear the color wheel if it were bad. if you pull the bulb out and shine a flashlight in it's opening, you should see the color wheel - if it doesn't look shattered and you can't hear it, you're probably ok... you can try and remove the bulb and...

Re: rca m50wh92syx1 question about bulbs not lasti
if you had an arc, you're lucky it still works - better to use a lightbulb with some wires to slowly drain big caps like that -- anyways, it's possible that the arc re solidified a bad solder joint or something or perhaps you just had a loose/bad connection between the ps and the ballast, or the bal...

Re: rca m50wh92syx1 question about bulbs not lasti
that's too bad, sometimes it's an easy fix, and sometimes it's not. i think based on the problems you've had, your logic is sound, time for a new tv -- and not an rca this time i hope :) i was just at sams club last night - they had a 50" panasonic plasma (display model) for $675... i wish i had mor...

Re: rca m50wh92syx1 question about bulbs not lasti
hello again, in your original post, you didn't mention what your tv was doing (the blinking lights) it's possible that you have some bad capacitors on your power supply, this is exactly what happened to my tv, on for 5 seconds, blink 5 times and off. Check over the power supply for any caps with puf...

Re: rca m50wh92syx1 question about bulbs not lasti
i think the voltage going to the bulb will blow out an average multimeter when it's firing the bulb -- 15,000v. I won't pretend to be an electrical engineer, but knowing i was dealing with that kind of voltage was enough for me to bring mine in for a check up.

the power going to the ballast is DC i believe -- but i don't think you can measure the power to the bulb w/o some expensive equipment

Re: rca m50wh92syx1 question about bulbs not lasti
hmm, that's a good question -- i have m50wh72s, which is nearly identical. i checked my bulb hours in the service menu the other day and i was at about 5000 hours (this is still the original bulb). for reference, this was used for a year (by the previous owner) it then stopped working, and they put ...

hissing power supply m50wh72s (rca dlp)
guys, i'm stumped and need some help determining what the problem is: there's is a relatively loud hissing coming from my power supply. it sounds like a tire losing air, not a buzzing or a humming. physically, i don't see any bad capacitors on the board (I've replace 4 that were bad). I'm wondering ...

Re: HD61LPW52 no lamp or color wheel power
from everything i read, the color wheel should spin up even with the lamp removed (make sure you have something holding down the lamp door switch or nothing will happen :). 321v might be ok, another user reported 324 or so on their 50"... You won't really be able to test the power coming out of the ...

Re: HD61LPW52 no lamp or color wheel power
it's probably worth looking to see if you have bad caps. 310v seems pretty low, it should be 320-380v... and the fact that nothing is spinning or starting up, seems like a power supply issue... the color wheel should spin up first if everything is working ok.

Re: New lamp, new color wheel, now what?
That's pretty much exactly what mine did, other than the tv would turn off after the solid light was on for 5 seconds. I'm not sure what that red light is, but mine has the same thing and it's actually inside the inputs cage if you open it up. I didn't have any fans, nothing made any noise, but as s...

Re: HD50LPW62AYX2
does that look like your ballast board? mine looks very similar to that, but i think it might be more narrow. i'd call them to verify that it will 100% work in your TV and ask them about their return policy if it's the wrong size or something. i haven't heard of that site, but at $160 it's much chea...

Re: HD50LPW62AYX2
redman, I don't think the ballast has a separate fuse, the only fuse i know of is on the power supply, and that's got to be intact since you're getting power. I won't pretent to be TV repair person, but apparently if you have the right tools you can test the caps while leaving them on the board - no...

Re: HD50LPW62AYX2
Ouch, that lamp ballast seems to be very expensive... the cheapest I saw was $350! Hopefully, if it is the ballast it can be repaired, or maybe it's just some really cheap caps. I noticed in another forum that you got an OSRAM bulb, before spending any more money, I'd return the OSRAM bulp and get a...

Re: HD50LPW62AYX2
No problem redman -- Do you have any blinking lights on the front? The color wheel does make a little bit of noise when it spins, so that's probably fine, unless it seems overly loud. If you have blinking lights... and possibly even if you don't, it's probably worth sliding out the tray the Power Su...

does it blink 5 times and shut off, or blink 5 times repeatedly?
have you pulled out the power supply to look for any puffy capacitors or burn marks around capacitors or any leaking electrolytic?

Re: HD50LPW62AYX2
if you have a multimeter you should check the voltage coming from the power supply -- set your meter to DC and put the probes on the two pins where the plug that runs to the ballast is. If you see somewhere between 320v and 400v your ps is probably ok... and since the bulb is most likely fine (since...

Blinking Lights - Worth Noting
This seems obvious, but all over the internet, people misread this simple observation....
5 blinks, pause, 5 more blinks - rinse, repeat
IS NOT THE SAME AS
5 blinks, 5 seconds solid, tv off.
If it's the first, then it's likely the lamp, if it's the second you've got bigger problems.
