PHILADELPHIA -- An unlikely hero emerged for surging St. http://www.thecowboysfansmall.com/c-47-cowboys-lp-ladouceur-jersey.aspx . Louis as the Cardinals kept alive their playoff push while putting the Philadelphia Phillies title celebration on hold. Adron Chambers drove in the go-ahead run with his first major league hit and Tyler Greene added an RBI double in the 11th inning to help St. Louis beat Philadelpha 4-2. "It was a great example of what weve been doing," Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa said. "The guys were outstanding. We hung in there and got a great win. It was a huge moment for Adron and Tyler Greene got a big hit." St. Louis appeared to have the game won in the ninth, but Corey Patterson dropped Carlos Ruizs drive to right with two outs allowing the tying run to score. The Phillies (97-51), who have already clinched no worse than the wild card, saw their magic number cut to one for winning their fifth straight NL East title when second-place Atlanta lost to the New York Mets 12-2. "We didnt do enough hitting tonight to get there," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said. "Were going to clinch. I like our position. Nobodys scared. Were going to do it." Yadier Molina homered and Albert Pujols went 4-for-4 for the Cardinals, who have won eight of nine and closed within 3 1/2 games of the Braves for the NL wild card lead. St. Louis remained 5 1/2 back of Milwaukee in the NL Central. "Well see if we can ride this," LaRussa said. Kyle McClellan (12-6) pitched a scoreless 10th, and Fernando Salas earned his 24th save in 29 chances with a scoreless 11th. Chambers, batting for the second time in his career since his Sept. 6 callup, lined a single to right off Michael Schwimmer (1-1) to score Rafael Furcal and give St. Louis a 3-2 lead. Greene followed with a double off the top of the wall in left to plate Pujols and put the Cardinals up two runs. Chambers was tagged out at the plate trying to score from first. "It was a real thrill," Chambers said. "Im really happy about it. The situation came up for me. I was able to get the job done. Right now Im just trying to play hard. These guys have been here all year so Im just trying to help as much as I can. "I hope another chance comes up so I can do it again." The Cardinals were leading 2-1 with two outs in the ninth when Ruiz drove in the tying run with a drive to right field. Patterson, a defensive replacement, got to the ball in time but it went in and out of his glove just inside the line in deep right to allow pinch-runner Michael Martinez to score. The play was first ruled a hit before being changed to an error. Martinez was running for Philadelphia slugger Ryan Howard, who was not in the starting lineup for the fourth time in nine days with a nagging ankle injury, but came on with two outs in the ninth and doubled to right, just beating Pattersons throw with a headfirst slide. It was the second straight big pinch-hit for Howard, who drove in the winning run in Thursday nights 2-1, 10-inning victory over Florida. "We wouldve liked to have done it tonight but we look at the positives and move forward," Philadelphia centre fielder Shane Victorino said. "We were able to come back and we didnt give up. Well look at the positives and come back tomorrow." St. Louis appeared on its way to victory when Molina broke a 1-1 tie with a solo homer in the eighth off the foul pole against Antonio Bastardo. The Cardinals catcher also gunned down John Mayberry Jr. at second with an impressive throw in the seventh. "Youve just got to see him every day," LaRussa said of Molina. "Ive never seen anyone better." Bastardo, who has been surprisingly dominant this season, has struggled of late. Beginning Sept. 3 when he took his first loss of the season at Florida, the Philadelphia left-hander has allowed five runs on four hits while walking three in his last five appearances. Jaime Garcia pitched seven strong innings and kept the Phillies batters off-balance all game, allowing just one hit outside of the second inning when Philadelphia managed four hits, including two infield singles, and one run. The left-hander was in line for his 13th victory, which would have matched his career high for wins in a season. He finished with four strikeouts against two walks. "Im pleased with what I did and glad we got the win," Garcia said. "Weve got something special going on and the main thing is to win for the team." Phillies starter Vance Worley pitched six solid innings, allowing one run on six hits while striking out five and walking three. The NL Rookie of the Year candidate was coming off Sundays 3-2 loss at Milwaukee that snapped a streak of 14 games in a row won by the Phillies in his starts. His record remained at 11-2 while his earned-run average dropped slightly to 2.85, from 2.92 entering the game. The Cards took a 1-0 lead in the second when Worley walked in a run, but the right-hander escaped further trouble when he got Allen Craig to ground out with the bases loaded for the final out. John Mayberry Jr., starting in place of Howard, hit an RBI double in the bottom of the frame to tie it at 1, but the Phillies also stranded the bases loaded when Jimmy Rollins popped out to second. Philadelphia remained five wins shy of setting a single-season franchise record for victories. Notes: The Phillies have scored three runs or less in their last eight games, going 4-4 in those contests. ... LaRussa recorded his 1,400th career victory. ... Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday missed his second straight game with an inflamed tendon on his right middle finger. ... Pujols has now reached safely in 32 straight games. ... The Phillies crowd of 45,572 was their 197th regular-season sellout and 210th in a row counting post-season. ... St. Louis Jake Westbrook (12-8, 4.61) is scheduled to face Roy Oswalt (7-9, 3.8 in the second game of the four-game series at 7:05 Saturday night. http://www.thecowboysfansmall.com/c-64-cowboys-charles-haley-jersey.aspx . In the subsequent 36 minutes, reality hit hard. The Raptors saw both sides of the post-Gay coin in 48 minutes of basketball. "Theres no excuses in this league but Im going to chalk this one [up] to travel. http://www.thecowboysfansmall.com/c-37-cowboys-jaylon-smith-jersey.aspx . It looked like being another miserable day for Moyes when Ashley Westwood put Villa in front from a 13th-minute free kick. But Rooney headed United level seven minutes later, and the striker netted his 16th of the season for the struggling champions from the penalty spot before halftime. http://www.thecowboysfansmall.com/ . Three days after getting routed 8-1 on home ice by the Calgary Flames, the Oilers welcome one of the top teams in the Western Conference tonight, the San Jose Sharks.Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - The game wasnt decided in the 20th round of a shootout, but it was still full of theatrics. Alex Ovechkin tallied a goal and an assist as the Washington Capitals avenged their marathon shootout loss to the Florida Panthers last month with a 4-3 victory on Sunday. Brooks Laich, Karl Alzner and Andre Burakovsky also scored for the Capitals, who continued their hot play after a dramatic 3-2 win over Chicago in the Winter Classic on New Years Day. Braden Holtby stopped 29-of-32 shots in his 15th consecutive start. Nick Bjugstad, who provided the winner in the NHL-record shootout on Dec. 16, made it a one-goal game with 1:59 to play, but Florida was unable to tie it. Dylan Olsen and Vincent Trocheck also scored for the Panthers, who have dropped three of their last four games. We werent good enough, but we battled back and found a way to come closer at the end, Panthers coach Gerard Gallant said. We cant wait until the end of the game to get involved physically. Roberto Luongo gave up three goals on 21 shots over the first 40 minutes, but was replaced by Al Montoya, who turned aside 4-of-5 shots fired his way during the final stanza. Luongo took a hit from Ovechkin in the first period and gutted out the second before the injury caused him to exit the game for precautionary reasons. Trailing 2-1, Laichs rising slap shot from the far edge of the left circle tied the game at 12:13 of the second and the Capitals reclaimed the lead after Alzners blast from the high slot went past a screened Luongo with 54 seconds remaining in the stanza. Ovechkin sent the puck across the top of the crease to Burakovsky, who tapped it in for a 4-2 lead 5:42 innto the final period. http://www.thecowboysfansmall.com/c-65-cowboys-rico-gathers-jersey.aspx. . The Panthers received 47 seconds of 5-on-3 power-play time with under nine minutes remaining, but a strong Capitals penalty kill kept Florida at bay. After Montoya went to the bench in favor of an extra attacker with over two minutes to play, Bjugstad wristed a shot from a severe angle down low off the pipe and past Holtby for a one-goal game moments later. Florida threatened with a vacant net once again, but was unable to pull even. After a scoreless 20 minutes, Ovechkin gave Washington the lead with a power- play goal 1:16 into the middle stanza. Marcus Johansson found Nicklas Backstrom below the goal line and Ovechkin moved in from the left circle behind the play to wrist Backstroms feed past an unsuspecting Luongo. The Panthers responded with two goals in a span of 1:25. Three Washington players collided in the offensive zone and the Panthers embarked on a 3-on-0 down the ice. Holtby stopped Trocheck in tight, but Willie Mitchell sent the rebound on net and Trocheck was there to slip it in for a tied game at 3:57 of the second. Florida then took advantage of Washingtons poor defensive zone coverage as Olsens wrister from the left circle deflected in off the glove of Capitals defenseman Brooks Orpik at 5:22. Game Notes The Capitals improved to 19-1-2 when scoring first ... Washington improved to 11-0-2 over its last 13 games against Florida ...
