I personally don't like diamonds. I think they are kinda boring. Just about everyone has them for wedding rings. Come on, be creative! I'd like a Celtic knot or some such for my wedding ring, or an opal. Or something different that no one else has.

I would have to say that size (in this situation) does not matter. My engagement ring was a chip, well, a little bigger than one...I never took it off. When we bought our first house, and nice cars...I never took it off...it's all about the meaning behind the ring, not the ring itself...so I took it off.

I agree It's the meaning not the ring. That's why I don't like the whole "upgrade"thing. so many people are young and broke when they get married, I think it would be neat to look at the ring and remember where you have come from together. I would prefer to have only a plain bang wedding ring if I get married. it's so simple and elegant.
also, my grandmother accidentally backhanded me with her big ole diamond ring and split my lip when I was a kid. (she got really excited playing pictionary)Ever since, I have been a little scared of big diamonds. I have a custom ring that my husband designed with an onyx as the center stone. Knowing how many diamonds are so unethically mined, I couldn't sleep at night knowing that some kid may have lost a limb for my vanity. Plus, I don't buy into the whole myth of diamonds being "rare" - if they are so rare, why does almost everyone have one on their engagement ring? No diamonds for me.

Actually I wouldn't care for an engagement ring. I've heard stories about girls going for rings that were just ridiculous in price [when you think about what that money's buying]. Hell, if a guy's willing ot drop a couple grand for me, I say let's go home theater shopping instead. Believe you me, I can find something loads more shiny and prolly has an LCD for him to buy if he really wants to.
