I think the most valuable piece of experience I can share is that the Lamp is not always the problem!
BUT, as a trained and seasoned vet in the field, it is the first thing one should try for its simplicity, because it is consumable, and price
The other 2 consumable parts once a lamp has been replaced would be the colorwheel and ballast.
I repeat, I myself would only discard my problem being the lamp AFTER I try a new lamp!!!
